Fiberglass and Midges (1200 cfs)

Took my oldest and my newest out for a few casts this afternoon.  The oldest is my very first fly rod, a 6 wt. Fenwick from the 70's that fishes nice with a DT5.  I remember lawn casting it when I was about 10 years old, and catching some rainbows and brookies with it in my early teens.  Until this past summer, I hadn't removed it from the case since the 80's.  It still looks great, feels great, and casts better than I ever remember, though I never did really learn to cast it well back then.  Along came graphite in my late teens, and I put the old "junk rod" away, but never could quite part with it for some reason.  Thank heavens!

The newest one is the Lamiglas 4wt. I just built a month ago, but haven't had time to fish until this afternoon.  From the first cast, it felt like an easy extension of my arm, just beautiful.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to be using it a lot in the coming season, and I'm building a companion 5 weight from the same blank.

Fiberglass--Just like bamboo, only less expensive, stronger, and lighter.  Glass fishes at a proper "slower" pace, protects light tippets with small flies, and just feels right.  I like the retro look too.
